The Importance of Rural Healthcare

I have a great concern for nutrition, agriculture and healthcare.  It was my own family’s health which motivated me to get involved in agriculture, which is one of the things we have done since moving to Edgefield County in 2013.  I could talk at length about my concerns!

In 2015 and 2016 I was privileged to serve on the Edgefield County Hospital Board at a time when rural healthcare was in crisis.  Candidly, we were not clear at the time that we would be able to keep our hospital open.  The leadership team I was a part of researched several potential partnerships and worked a relationship with Self Regional Hospital in Greenwood.  That partnership enabled our county hospital to stay open, which no doubt helped us when we were able to recruit Generac to locate a new manufacturing facility here in 2021. If elected, I will continue to do everything I can to support local medicine.
